Thames Barges wood carving in Lime

Description

Thames barges are a type of flat-bottomed sailing vessel that historically played a crucial role in the transportation of goods along the River Thames in England. These vessels were designed to navigate the shallow waters and tidal estuaries of the Thames, making them well-suited for transporting cargo to and from London and other towns along the river. Thames barges were particularly popular during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Thames barges hold a significant place in the history of maritime trade and transportation in the United Kingdom. This work celebrates Thames Barges and is carved as a low relief in in Lime wood, with a wax stain finish to add the colouring. It is 35 cm wide and 25.5 cm high and just under 5 cm deep at the base. It is intended to a wall hung relief, but could also be free standing on a shelf. The piece needs to be at roughly eye level to work well.
